The Blues fell to a Worthington Cup second round first leg defeat as they failed to take chance after chance as well as making errors at the back. Town kicked off with Martijn Reuser in a four man midfield with Matt Holland on the bench. Gary Croft came into the side for Fabian Wilnis, John Scales for the injured Titus Bramble and David Johnson for Marcus Stewart. Rain lashed the New Den throughout and made the surface difficult at times.

Town won their first away game if the season 2-1 with a fantastic display of passing and grit at Leeds despite falling a goal behind in the third minute. Goals from James Scowcroft and Jermaine Wright saw the Blues home as the Elland Road side looked well short of their Champions’ League status.

Town fell to their second 2-1 defeat in a week as they were once again made to pay for defensive errors. A first half goal from Lee Hendrie put Villa ahead and a second half header from Dion Dublin had seemingly settled the game. However, a spirited fightback by the Blues in the latter stages saw Marcus Stewart notch his first of the season.

Town fell to their second defeat of the season losing 2-1 at Filbert Street. The Blues never really got going and fell two goals behind after second half strikes from Ade Akinbiyi and Matt Elliott. Jim Magilton scored the Town goal with a late penalty.

Town fell to defeat in their first game back in the Premiership, although it was not all bad news for George Burley’s men. The Blues lined up with new signing Hermann Hreidarsson lining up in the middle of a back three with Titus Bramble to his right and Mark Venus to his left. Up front David Johnson partnered Marcus Stewart who started despite the rumours yesterday, with James Scowcroft, Jim Magilton and Matt Holland in midfield. The wing backs were Gary Croft and Jamie Clapham.

Town finished their pre-season friendly programme with a 1-1 draw with Italian Serie A giants Fiorentina. Star of the show was Titus Bramble who put on an awesome display at the back against world class strikers like Portugal's Nuno Gomes.

Two David Johnson goals in the first half gave Town another win in a game which petered out towards the end of the second half. Johnny Bosman scored Alkmaar's second half reply.

Two friendlies in two days has seen a new Town star emerge: Nabil Abidallah. In last night’s 3-0 win at Colchester the Dutchman, in a twenty-five minute spell as sub, showed he had skills aplenty with fans tagging him Kieron, a player he resembles both in appearance and playing style. In this afternoon’s game at Heybridge Swifts’ Scraley Road he was once again impressive and set up both Town goals in a 2-2 draw.

Town eventually ran out winners of a stupendous play-off semi-final second leg at Portman Road last night in a game that saw Bolton reduced to nine men, have ten booked and concede three penalties. A hat-trick from Jim Magilton, a penalty from Jamie Clapham and a fifth goal from Martijn Reuser saw Town to Wembley for the first time since the 1978 Charity Shield.
